The very first train - Epping to Chastwood line Sydney

A little bit of history quietly occurred on 8 March 2008. The very first train to operate over the entire Epping - Chatswood line in Sydney (ECRL) was the AK cars hauled by RailCorp's diesel locomotives 4819/4827 in push/pull configuration. At the time, the site was still a construction site. The track infrastructure was essentially complete, enabling the first train to operate. The AK cars record track and overhead wire geometry, and were used as part of the commissioning process. 2 more subsequent runs of the AK cars occurred in 2008. Regular CityRail passenger services commenced on 23 February 2009.
